Alena Vlasáková

  • prize winner of several music competitions, participant in international master classes in Weimar, Hannover, Warsaw, Budapest, pedagogical interships in London, Katowice, and Kiev
  • performed as a soloist and in piano duo with Eva Krámská in several European countries for 30 years
  • has been dealing with piano pedagogy since her youth (teacher at J. Kvapil elementary music school in Brno, at Conservatory in Pardubice,  professor at the Faculty of Music, JAMU in Brno and at HAMU in Prague since 1990) – she is author of the book „Piano Pedagogy“, founder and leader of the Centre of Methodology for pianists at JAMU in Brno
  • member of several international juries (Kiev, Dresden, Vienna, Vicenza, Lonigo, Košice, Brno, Prague, Ostrava, Pardubice, Glubczyce and others)
  • has been teaching at master classes and giving lectures at international conferences (Brno, Bratislava, Košice, Žilina, Prague Summer Academy, Audaces fortuna iuvat Mikulov, 21st Century Art – Lonigo, Vienna, Funchal, Weinberg, Katowice etc.)

Tuition description

The tuition will be focused on specifics coming from the tradition of the Czech, French and Russian piano school:

  • melodic phrasing
  • legato-leggiero, jeu perlé
  • technical difficulties and their solution by means of technical pre-phrasing, movement efficiency
  • coordination of sound conception, breathing, relaxation
  • work with silence, colour, acoustic tone wave

The emphasis is put on contrast and performance authenticity of composers from baroque to the 20th century.

Two lectures on topics chosen by master class participants are a part of her classes. 

Jan Jiraský

  • in the age of 20 he made ​​his debut compact disc of Smetana´s work for the Viennese label Musica. It was followed by radio, television and CD recordings (Czech Television, Lisbon recital at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, recording was broadcast by 12 European radio stations).
  • in the year 2000 he received the prestigious Prize of Classic Czech Music Fund in the categories of Talent up to 30 years and Interpretative performance
  • has featured at the most prestigious Czech festivals (including the Prague Spring), also in cycles of the renowned orchestral houses (including the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra), as well as on international stages (Vienna, Graz, Saarbrücken, Darmstadt, Apeldoorn, Oristano, Lisbon, Lublin, Funchal,Vicenza, Beijing, Katowice)
  • has performed large complete repertory, such as Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier or 18 Mozart ´s  sonatas, he prepared and analyzed Janáček ´s piano work, which he recorded on both, modern instrument (ArcoDiva) as well as  on the original composer´s  Ehrbar (Radioservis)
  • an associate professor of piano and piano interpretation and Head of the Piano and Piano Interpretation Department at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno

Tuition description

The focus during the lessons is mainly on characters and their contrasts, construction of the forms, phrasing, physical freedom, the joy of the game, breathing… and also on some details such as articulation, ornamentation, technical pre-phrasing, fingering, etc.

Focus on deduction, which means the understanding of the musical language of the author (semantics) point to its the most beautiful and the most authentic expression (aesthetics, style) all in accordance with the most effective instrumentality (technique).

  • sound concept, color and length of the tone
  • stage – fright and concentration on stage
  • work on the attitude to music, musical logic, grammar, listening piano tone and perception of emotions during the play
  • historically informed performance, during the lesson possibility to play a historical instrument – Graf fortepiano (c. 1825)

The course includes 2 lectures with demonstrations (topics: Speech in Music – Music in speech, Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, How to play Scarlatti, Chopin Etudes , piano works by Janacek, Smetana O interpretation of Mozart sonatas, etc…)
